Korea, Taiwan Rise in WEF's 2005 NRI Report

The World Economic Forum's 2005 NRI (Networked Readiness Index) ranking report was recently released, and the top ten countries in the 2005 ranking are the United States, Singapore, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Canada, Taiwan, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Taiwan, ranking 15th in 2004, has passed several Asian countries, including Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong, which rank 16th, 14th, and 11th, respectively. Korea is one of the fastest-rising countries in the NRI in Asia, rising by ten positions over the previous year. China and India rank 40th and 50th, respectively. The NRI is an assessment to determine a country or region's capability for ICT development. The report analyzes the overall ICT environment in a country, the readiness of governments, companies, and individuals to make use of this ICT environment, and the application of ICT technology.
